Community

Oakwood is a solidly suburban, famil area, but it isn't without diversity. Like many leafier parts of outer London, some have described it as 'villagey'.

The crime rate for the larger surrounding area is 'Average', and in the wards that this neighbourhood encompasses, significantly lower than London overall. The violence against the person rate is also lower than for London as a whole.

This is a relatively easy and inexpensive place to have a car. More households own a car than the London average, with a rate of just over 1 car per household in this area.

Nightlife

Oakwood has a good variety of shops and restaurants, but isn't a nightlife destination. There is more in the way of pubs and taverns. Oakwood is also relatively far out, and therefore more difficult to get back to late at night - but there is a night bus route that serves the area.

Family Friendly

Oakwood is definitely a suburban, family area. A comparatively small proportion of this area's residents are working-aged, with large child and pensioner populations. Oakwood has superb access to green space, with Oakwood Park and Trent Park offering lots of facilities that are family-friendly - from Go Ape adventure activities to horse riding at the equestrian centre, there are many entertainment options. This is a safe, family orientated suburb.

Pet Friendly

This area is home to a lot of families, and a mugh larger percentage of the accommodation is detached and semi-detached houses, rather than flats - that makes Oakwood a very good place to own a dog. Nearby, Trent Park offers vast green space, including the large Trent Park Equestrian Centre.

Oakwood's Tube station is on the Piccadilly Line, and is in Zone 5. Southgate (Zone 4) and Cockfosters (Zone 5) are also nearby.
