Barnet is a commuter suburb at the north edge of London, offering the best of both London and the countryside. There is a wide range of property available here, but many of the properties would be good for families, including the wide selection of terraces, semis, and detached period and modern houses. There are also great transport links by road or by rail, including a Tube link at High Barnet and the M25 motorway. Schools in this area are very good, and there is a lot of green and open space for residents to enjoy, from golf courses and riding schools to heathland and playing grounds. Barnet residents - especially families - tend to stay within the area when they trade up or down the housing ladder.

Barnet has staying power, especially for families, who will trade up and down within the area. The area has regular market and good local shops and restaurants. 

Safety

Barnet is a safe place to live, with a crime rate per 1,000 people that is below the London rate of 7. The 2014/2015 crime rate and violence against the person rate were both very significantly lower than the rates for London overall. The most common crimes in this area are different kinds of theft.

Parking

Parking is generally not a concern in this area. The rate of car ownership here is very high for London, at more than one car for every two households. Road links are fairly good - the M25 and the A1 are a short distance away. 

Nightlife

Barnet is home to a good range of pubs, bars, and restaurants. It is also on the Northern Line, which runs a Night Tube service at weekends, and will get residents into Central London within about a half hour.

Family Friendly

Barnet property ranges widely and includes many properties that would be suitable family homes, including terraces, semi-detached houses, and detached period and modern homes. There is good access to green and open space in this area. Hadley Common and Monken Hadley Common offer beautiful heathland and duck ponds. The large Trent Country Park nearby, too - here you'll also find a riding school - and there are many children's playgrounds and sport facilities in the area as well. Schools are generally very good, with many options for state primary and grammar schools that are rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted in addition to many private schools. The percentage of residents who are children aged 0-15 is just below the London percentage of about 20%. Families tend to stay in the area once they have settled here. 

Pet Friendly

The housing available in Barnet includes many properties that would be suitable for pets, including many larger homes with outside space. There is good access to green and open space in this area. Hadley Common and Monken Hadley Common offer heathland that is popular with dogs and their owners, and there's the large Trent Country Park nearby, too - here you'll also find a riding school.

Transport

High Barnet station (Zone 5) is on the Northern Line, and it takes about 30 minutes to get to Central London. Hardley Wood (Zone 6), New Barnet (Zone 5), and Oakleigh Park (Zone 4) stations have rail services to Moorgate in a little under half an hour. The area is well-served by buses, and road links are fairly good - the M25 and the A1 are a short distance away.
