Upper Clapton lies along the River Lea and can be spotted on a map because of its proximity to the river, the reservoirs, and several parks - including Clapton Common. The area is very diverse, and is notably home to a great many children. Much of the housing is of the high-rise 1960s tower block variety, however, and transport links aren't great - there's no Tube - so this area is a relative bargain.
This area is home to many families, and has a very high proportion of child residents. It is an area with a lot of high-rise social housing, and fairly high deprivation. It does not especially have staying power for its residents, and nor is it renowned for having an independent cafe culture.
The Met police currently rates the area of Upper Clapton and its surroundings as having average crime. The 2014/2015 crime rate was slightly lower than the overall London rate, but the violence against the person rate was slightly higher.
Parking is about average in this area. The rate of car ownership here is half that of London, with less than one car for every two households. Road links are fairly good, with the A10 connecting residents to the North Circular.
Upper Clapton itself has some pubs and restaurants, but generally not much of a nightlife scene. Residents aren't too far from parts of East London that are known for their nightlife, like Hackney or Stoke Newington, which would be easily accessible by bicycle or bus.
A significant proportion of the housing in this area is of the high-rise council block variety. The area has a lot of green and open space, as well as numerous waterways - these include the River Lea, the reservoirs, Springfield Park, Clapton Common, and Lee Valley Park. Clapton Common also has numerous sport facilities, from tennis courts to rugby pitches. A very high percentage of residents - over 10% more than for London overall - are children aged 0-15.
This area has a large concentration of high-rise council estates, which are often less suitable for pets. The area does, however, have access to a lot of green and open space, as well as numerous waterways - these include the River Lea, the reservoirs, Springfield Park, Clapton Common, and Lee Valley Park.
Upper Clapton sadly does not have a Tube link. Clapton, Rectory Road, and Stoke Newington stations are on the Overground, however, and the area is well-served by local buses. The A10 links residents to the North Circular. A high percentage of residents cycle to work.
