As with many of the areas around the Olympic Park, Homerton has benefitted a lot from regeneration that has poured into the area. Formerly down-at-heel and poorly connected, the area's prospects are looking up - the Overground has made this area a lot easier to get to and from. The area has always had a lot of greenery, with Hackney Marshes, Victoria Park, and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and its share of local and independent shops, pubs, and restaurants.
Homerton is a diverse area with a good range of locally owned, independent businesses.
The 2014/2015 crime rate and violence against the person rate were both somewhat higher than the London rates. The Met police today classifies Homerton as having average crime, but next door Stratford is a high crime hotspot.
The cost and difficulty of parking in this area is about average for London. The rate of car ownership here is half that of London overall - with fewer than 1 car for every 2 households. The road links are fairly good, with the A12 connection to the North Circular. A very high percentage of people opt to cycle to work.
Homerton itself has some local pubs and restaurants, but is situated within a wider area that is known for its nightlife - Hackney Central and Clapton, as well as Hackney Wick and Leyton and even Westfield Stratford, offer a wide range of nightlife options.
This is a densely populated urban area, and accommodation tends to be small, meaning it might be hard to find a family home. There is, however, a lot of green and open space in the area, including Victoria Park and the Olympic Park, the River Lea, and the Hertford Union Canal. There are more working age adults and slightly more children in Homerton than in London overall, so this area is still home to a good number of families.
Small accomodation and tower blocks dominate this densely populated area, making it hard to find a house suitable for pets. However, there is a lot of green and open space in the area, including acres of greenery at Victoria Park, canal walks along the Hertford Union Canal and other waterways, and the Olympic Park.
Homerton is located in Zone 2, but until relatively recently felt far more remote. The area's transport connections improved with the Overground's takeover at its station, on the line from Stratford to Richmond. There are numerous local buses, including night buses. The area has fairly good road links, including the A12 to the North Circular. A very high percentage of people opt to cycle to work.
