Living in

Surrounded by many of the most popular places in East London, Haggerston has been overlooked in comparison. This neighbourhood is something of an oasis amongst the trendy Dalston, Shoreditch, and Hoxton destinations that are within walking distance, and enjoys a laid-back atmosphere and nice scenery, including Regent's Canal and the stretch of independent cafes and restaurants that line it.

Community

This area is home to mainly young professionals, and has a quieter, more laid-back feel than the surrounding areas. People do tend to move away when they start a family. There are many local, independent businesses in Haggerston.

Safety

While most of the neighbourhood is currently classed as having average crime by the Met police, the 2014/2015 crime and violence against the person rates were notably higher than for London overall, and there are several high crime hotspots around the neighbourhood.

Parking

This isn't an ideal place for owners of cars, and parking can be difficult and expensive. A small number of households own a car here, at a rate less than half that of London overall.

Nightlife

Within walking distance of a huge range of nightlife options, within Haggerson itself and also in neighbouring weekend destinations including Shoreditch and Dalston.

Family Friendly

Most of the available housing here is rented flats, rather than family homes. Most of the people who live here are young professionals, rather than families, who do tend to move out to places like Walthamstow in search of more space when they decide to raise children. Green space is somewhat limited, but Haggerston has a park with leisure facilities, and Hackney City Farm, which offers a good day out for families. Regent's Canal also runs through the area, and there are a number of smaller garden squares. Primary schools are generally good, as are secondaries.

Pet Friendly

Most of the available housing here is rented flats, which can make finding a place for your pet difficult. Haggerston has a park, and is home to Hackney City Farm, which hosts farm animals including sheep and donkeys. The canal also offers a nice place to walk a dog.

Transport

Haggerston is located in Zone 2. Its station is served by the Overground, which also connects residents to Hoxton and Shoreditch. Nearby Bethnal Green is on the Central Line. The area is well-served by local buses. A high percentage of residents travel to work by bicycle, whereas a small number own cars.
