Bethnal Green is a lively East London neighbourhood that attracts a wide range of people. Appealing to everyone from artists and City workers to young families, the area is very diverse. Green space, good local amenities, good schools, and excellent transport links cater to the specialised needs of these populations. Bethnal Green has also remained more affordable than ins neighbours, like Hoxton and Shoreditch, and many who turn to this area because they were priced out of a place nearby are pleasantly surprised with what they find here.
Bethnal Green's reputation is that of unpretentiousness and diversity, with residents including everyone from creative and City professionals who are priced out of Shoreditch to young families priced out of London Fields and looking to upsize to houses. Families tend to move out if they need larger homes.
The neighbourhood of Bethnal Green itself is rated as having average crime by the Met police, though the 2014/2015 crime rate and violence against the person rate were both higher than for London overall. The area also has a lot of areas of high and above average crime around it, including Shoreditch and Whitechapel.

Primary schools in this area are good, and there are three 'outstanding' state comprehensive schools. Green space in this area ranges from the very small Jesus Green to the very large Victoria Park, with Weavers Fields (which has a children's playground) and Bethnal Green Gardens in between. Regent's Canal cuts through the area. A somwhat smaller proportion of residents are children, while many residents are working-aged.

Bethnal Green is in Zone 2 and is on the Central Line at Bethnal Green and Cambridge Heath stations. There is Overground access at Bethnal Green and Cambridge Heath, too, and at Shoreditch High Street and Hoxton. Liverpool Street Station is nearby. The area is well served by local buses.
