Living in

Wishaw is a large town which is located in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, on the edge of the Clyde Valley. This Scottish town has a long industrial history based predominately on coal mining and steel production. After the post-industrial age, Wishaw diverted its focus on both the service and retail sectors as an attempt to regenerate the area, this saw the arrival and development of vital buildings, such as, the popular retail park which is situated in the south of the town centre. Today, Wishaw boasts great facilities including a brand new University Hospital, Wishaw Sports Centre and Wishaw Golf Club. The area also offers a variety of accommodation, with residents having the options of stately terraces, large executive properties, contemporary homes and luxury apartments.

Community

With the recent revival of Wishaw, residents are treated to a number of nearby attractions and entertainment venues. World of Wings, Tennent's Wellpark Brewery, North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre and Motherwell Concert Hall & Theatre are all some favoured options, as well as a regular Saturday Market and Car Boot Sale which takes place on Steel Street every week. Local amenities including cafes, eateries and shopping retailers are also available along Main Street in the town centre. 

Safety

North Lanarkshire is among the top 5 most unsafe Council areas in Scotland, with around 48 crimes reported per 1000 people. Wishaw has a population of over 30,000, and so residents should remain cautious and take safety precautions where appropriate. 

Parking

A wide choice of paid and free parking options can be found in and around Wishaw. Residents can use secure parking spaces on Belhaven Road, Young Street, Kirk Road, Houldsworth Centre and Graham Street, which are all within 5 minutes of the town centre. 

Nightlife

Residents only have a small handful of Bars, Restaurants and Pubs to choose from in the area, this includes the main venues of Live Lounge, Girdwoods Bar, The Horse & Anchor, Corrigans Bar & Grill and The Waverley. If locals are looking for a wider selection of nightlife, they can head to Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Family Friendly

An abundance of local Primary and Secondary Schools are located in Wishaw and its surrounding areas. Families can choose from the likes of Wishaw Academy Primary School, Calderbridge Primary School, Coltness High School, St Aidan's High School and New College Lanarkshire. Further education options include The University of the West of Scotland, The University of Strathclyde and The University of Glasgow, which can all be easily commuted to.

With the large amounts of greenery which surrounds Wishaw, pet owners and residents are spoilt for choice with scenic areas to explore. Dog walkers can discover the nearby parks of Perchy Pond Wishaw, Deer Park, Greenhead Moss Nature Reserve, Waterloo Park, Beltane Park and more.  

Transport

Wishaw Train Station is managed by ScotRail which provides many useful connections to nearby towns and cities. Residents can access regular trains, such as, Glasgow Central, Edinburgh (Waverley), Motherwell, Bellshill, Lanark and Kirkconnel. The A17 sits within close proximity to the town, allowing residents to travel to the areas of Kilmarnock, Livingston and Edinburgh, along with Glasgow Airport in around a 40-minute car journey. Buses also serve the area for local travel.
