Living in

Bexley is a suburb on the very edge of South East London, bordering Kent. It is a place with a villagey atmosphere, full of great parks, independent businesses, and affordable family homes. It comes with the benefit of being in Zone 6 and served by its own rail station, as well as having good road links. It's a good area for families, with a choice of good schools - including selective schools - alongside the affordable homes and greenery.

Community

There are a lot of independent businesses in Bexley, especially in the area known as Bexley Village or Old Bexley. That, and its friendly inhabitants, have contributed to a strong sense of community in this area.

Safety

Bexley is a very safe place to live. In March 2017, Bexley had half the number of crimes per 1000 residents as London did overall - just 4. In the same period, the top reported crimes were theft from a vehicle, harassment, and theft of a vehicle. The 2014/2015 crime rate and violence against the person rate were just fractions of the London rates.

Parking

Parking is generally not too much of a concern in this part of London. The rate of car ownership here is very high for London, at about one and a half cars per household. Road links - including the A2 and the M25 - are good. 

Nightlife

There is a fairly good range of restaurants and pubs in this area, as well as pubs and bars. Neighbouring Bexleyheath has some more options, too. It is, however, on the very outskirts of London, making it more difficult to get to the central nightlife areas for more entertainment options. 

Family Friendly

Bexley's wide range of property - from period cottages to Thirties semis and newer - offers a lot of options that would make good, affordable family homes. road links - including the A2 and the M25 - are good. The area is also well provided for in terms of green and open space - along the Rivers Cray and Shuttle are several parks, gardens, and sports grounds.  Schools in Bexley are generally good, and there are a lot of options - including Catholic and Grammar schools.

Pet Friendly

There is a wide range of property available in Bexley. This includes period houses and Thirties semis with gardens, and other types of properties that would be suitable for pets. Bexley also has plenty of green and open space - along the Rivers Cray and Shuttle are several parks and gardens that are perfect for dog walking. 

Transport

Bexley has its own Zone 6 rail station, with Southeastern trains to Blackheath, London Bridge, Waterloo East, Cannon Street, and Charing Cross. Crayford and Albany Park stations are also relatively nearby. The area is well-served by local buses, and road links - including the A2 and the M25 - are good.
