South Yorkshire was once an industrial heartland, but today is a place where heritage and history meets modern attractions. More than half of the county lives in the Sheffield Urban Area, but from the market town of Doncaster to the rural villages on the outskirts of Rotherham, there is great variety in terms of lifestyle and property. South Yorkshire is landlocked, but there is no shortage of outdoor activities here, with the Peak District and plenty of rolling hills and rivers in the area. Schools here tend to be good, and transport connections by road and rail are as well, enabling people who work in the county’s cities to live elsewhere and commute and connecting South Yorkshire to places on the East Coast Main line, including London.
