White City Area Guide

White City, West London

Fabulous3.1

Living in

White City's regeneration, long overdue, is underway. It has been a significantly commercial area, apart from the estate, but the neighbourhood's character is about to change. With the redevelopment of the former BBC headquarters as housing, as well as the expansion of Westfield, the area is on the up, and is increasing its appeal as a place to live.

Community

Apart from the estate, this area has been a significantly commercial one, dominated by the BBC, but is transforming with millions of pounds in development to turn it into a more residental area. Of those who live here, many are families, as well as commuters, and the area is very diverse.

Safety

Much of this neighbourhood is safe, but there are high-crime hotspots such as the area surrounding Westfield. The 2014/2015 crime rate was somewhat lower than for London overall, but the violence against the person rate was a bit higher.

Parking

Much of the available parking in this area will be car parks, including at Westfield, many of which are fairly expensive. The area has good road links, including the Westway. Car ownership in this area is fairly low, with about one car per every two households.

Nightlife

There's not a lot of nightlife in White City, but there's some activity in neighbouring Shepherd's Bush. Transport links are also good, for going out elsewhere.

Family Friendly

Schools in the area, including the local comprehensive school, are fairly good and are improving. There is limited open and green space in the neighbourhood, but Wormwood Scrubs is not far away, and it's a fairly short trip to Holland Park. A similar number of children aged 0-15 live here as in London overall - about 1 in 5 residents are children.

Pet Friendly

Open space in the neighbourhood is limited, but Wormwood Scrubs is nearby. Some housing is relatively spacious. It would be possible to have a dog in this area.

Transport

White City is in Zone 2 and is well-connected. White City station is on the Central Line. Shepherd's Bush is on the Central Line and the Overground. Wood Lane is on the Circle and Hammersmith & City Lines. There are numerous buses serving this area, including night buses. The area has good road links to the Westway.
