Exact Location, viewing Instructions and further details can be found in our brochure below.A delightful mixture of larch, Douglas fir and oak in a rural location with private gated access and camping possibilities, 5 miles west of Llandovery.A mile north from the village of Llanwrda, Coed Mawreddog is situated a short distance from Llandovery in rural Carmarthenshire and is accessed through a locked gate.Located on east facing slopes, the mature canopy is established amongst fertile loamy and rocky soils comprising lofty larch to the north with a blend of mixed broadleaves and further conifer to the south, these include oak, beech, ash, sycamore and Douglas fir. Some of the large Douglas are of superb quality and offer scope for a new owner to yield a stem for a variety of uses; veneering or joinery come to mind. Within the shrub layer you will discover hazel coppice, hawthorn and prolific holly. Some of the holly stems could be cleared, making use of the broader stems as fuel for the hearth (holly is dense and can burn longer than other species once seasoned). Come warmer months the ground layer is transformed with colourful ground flora that include bluebells, primrose, foxglove, lesser celandine and herb-Robert.Just outside the northern boundary is a babbling seasonal stream, which can be viewed from a pathway within the woodland. A network of cleared trails allow access to a number of locations and are also used by woodland mammals. A level grassy area towards the northwest corner of the woodland could make a lovely spot to camp, looking out west to rolling farmland and possible stars overhead come nightfall. The tranquil locale attracts innumerable feathered guests including greenfinch, buzzard, owl and an array of acoustic songsters. Mammals including muntjac and roe deer, wood mouse, badger, fox and hare are often spotted amongst the stems. Our Forester'sThoughtsSam says..."I would consider enhancing some of the trails that lead towards the south of the woodland, with some steps dug from the east boundary to the west. I would mow the grassy area before pitching my bell tent - this is a wonderful area that catches the sun during a summers evening! If required, annual vegetation clearance would be carried out to keep the access area off the road in good order. There is plenty of space for some on-site milling of Douglas fir and beech."Please remember some management operations require approval and/or a licence.
