Exact Location, viewing Instructions and further details can be found in our brochure below.Bisected by a stream, near the coast and just outside the National Park – this charming example of mature broadleaf woodland offers significant amenity and conservation potential.Carletonmoor Wood is available in 2 lots or as a whole. Both lots are very similar in size, aspect and tree species composition, with Lot 2 being slightly larger; split neatly by Ragga Brook.Located just outside the stunning Lake District National Park, this is an incredibly diverse and naturally rich woodland, which feels secluded and wild, but also benefits form great access and connection to the A595 coastal road. Carletonmoor Wood is split by Ragga Brook, which adds not only a delightful visual aspect, but adds great habitat value, by encouraging diversity within the wood. One could imagine Daubenton’s bats, which rely on this kind of habitat to swoop down and catch prey off the water’s surface, roosting in the many veteran trees found in Carletonmoor Wood. The site has two entrances, each with an area of hardstanding and high quality wooden gate, which allows each lot to be accessed separately. There is plenty of space within the woodland to park and turn a car, allowing year-round use. One is immediately aware of the majestic veteran trees upon entering the wood – mature oak, ash and beech dominate the upper canopy, supplemented by sycamore, Scots pine, rowan and cherry, with the lower canopy being made up by hazel, holly, elder and some alder and willow in the wetter areas. At the herb layer, I noted bluebells, wild garlic, saxifrage, deer ferns, bugle and yellow pimpernel. The woodland is being offered as below at Offers in Excess of the prices shown. Further information about the offer process is noted in the brochure Lot 1 - 5.45 acres - £48,000 Lot 2 - 6.81 acres - £60,000 The Whole - 12.26 acres - £99,000 Our Forester'sThoughtsHarry says..."I would create some ‘leaky barriers’ in the stream – permeable barriers which slow the flow of water and create pools and deeper areas, great for attracting even more wildlife to my wood. I would think about digging a pond in the wetter area which contains the alder, to further augment this habitat. There is a good diversity of tree species within the wood, but the age class of the trees could be made more irregular by planting in the more open areas, where trees have fallen, or using temporary fencing to create a glade and utilise natural regeneration from the current seed parent trees. There are some wonderful fallen trees, a healthy, natural component of dynamic woodland ecology, which not only look beautiful and add a visual quirk to the landscape, offer considerable habitat and ecological value; I would perhaps get in a mobile sawmill to clear one or two of these and use the timber to create a basecamp and seating area for friends and family to enjoy!"Please remember some management operations require approval and/or a licence.
