DescriptionAccording to local folklore The Grange is steeped in history, as it is said to have been a stopping off place for pilgrims travelling to Glastonbury, and although current research goes back to the 1700s, records of its earlier history are believed to be held in Longleat's Glastonbury library. This delightful house stands on the edge of the village alongside a quiet lane. It is a charming and very attractive property, built of blue lias stone with pale red brick infilling under a Roman clay tiled roof. It has plenty of generous-sized rooms with excellent ceiling heights and retains many architectural features throughout, including diamond-paned leaded lights, flagstone floors, ceiling beams and stunning inglenook and stone fireplaces.
Approaching from the front, the south facing façade is most attractive, with its symmetrical double fronted appearance and diamond leaded windows, whilst the front porch offers an invitation into the large sitting room with exposed beams, flagstones, cast iron radiators and an open stone fireplace. A doorway leads to the central hall which has the staircase, ample storage and access through to the dining room, shower room and a rear vestibule which opens out onto to the gardens. The dining room is particularly impressive with its large inglenook fireplace to complement the exposed beams, flagstone flooring and window seat. It is big enough to hold a large dining table also, and so would be a wonderful room to host in.
On the opposite side of the hall is the well-appointed kitchen which offers plenty of space to hold a further table for more informal dining, flagstones, and picture windows that overlook the stunning gardens. The kitchen is fitted with a range of solid wood wall and base units, a gas fired Rangemaster cooker and plumbing for two dishwashers and a washing machine. The staircase rises to a large landing which offers enough space to be used as a room in its own right and has a high vaulted ceiling with roof lights, making this a lovely bright spot in the house.
All four double bedrooms and family bathroom can be easily accessed off the landing, with the principal bedroom off to the left hand side and benefitting from a private en-suite shower room, with the rest enjoying a south facing aspect to the right.
OutsideAn idyllic, peaceful garden, extending to just over three quarters of an acre. Immediately abutting the property is a delightful semi-circular gravelled seating terrace and inner garden, enclosed by a high stone wall. The inner garden includes a central lawn, well stocked flower beds and a water feature that adds to the air of tranquillity. Stone steps lead to an expanse of well-kept lawns surrounded by a colourful mix of mature shrubs, a variety of trees including Cedar, Ginkgo, Beech & Scots Pine. Staddle stones sit to the front and side of the property, with a gravelled driveway that leads around onto a double garage and an additional parking area which is set back behind stone walling and double gates.
