Property description
A part 17th-century, detached thatched property in 1.42 acres of gardens and paddocks, with driveway parking, a separate outbuilding – once a garage and two stables - in a secluded village location with country views. Kennett Cottage is in a conservation area on the outskirts of Towersey village. Overlooking a sheltered drive at the front, a neighbouring pasture on one side, and open fields from the rear, the views from the property are probably little changed since it was built in the 17th century. The front of the cottage retains original features, from exposed beams and stone walls, to open fireplaces with wooden lintels. However, at different points late in the last century, two south facing reception rooms were added, in a style sympathetic to the older building, and using artisanal skills. The timber frame of the sitting room, for example, was ‘raised’ in the traditional manner, the entire house has more recent, but handmade leaded, wooden casement windows (double glazed at the back), and ledge-and-brace doors. Recent refurbishment (2020), included re-thatching the ridge and the entire back of the house (the north side was cleaned), and installing a new boiler.
