Property description

Aurora is an elegant Grade II* listed period building which is situated just off the seafront at Sidmouth with all of the amenities of the town centre within easy reach. The building has recently been the subject of an extensive renovation - a 2 year project done in conjunction with English Heritage. This apartment was at one time the summer retreat of the author JRR Tolkien, who wrote part of The Lord of the Rings here.

This apartment is situated on the second floor and offers gracious, elegant rooms with large windows, giving pleasant views to the sea, and across the nearby cricket, tennis, croquet and bowling grounds. The light and airy sitting/dining room has an impressive fireplace as a focal point and gives access to an inner hall. The kitchen incorporates a host of integrated appliances, including Neff oven, hob and microwave, a fridge and a freezer. A large utility cupboard provides useful space for a washing machine and a tumble dryer. There are two large double bedrooms with built-in wardrobes, and a bathroom with a shower over the bath.

Outside
To the front of the property is gravelled parking exclusively reserved for residents, providing convenient and hassle-free access. Just a short level walk away lies the delightful seafront and beach, along with the town centre with its range of cafés, independent shops and restaurants.

Directions
To find Aurora itself from the Bedford Hotel on the seafront, take the B3186 Station Road (signposted Exeter and Honiton) past the car park, bowling green, and croquet lawn on the left. Opposite the turning into Fortfield Terrace, turn right. Go past the bus stop and immediately before the no-entry sign is the access to Kennaway House on the left.  Aurora is located behind Kennaway house, if you proceed to the rear  you will find parking available.

Location
Sidmouth is an elegant Regency coastal town which is home to attractive beaches, stylish eating places and great shopping.  Sitting in a valley between Peak Hill to the West and Salcombe Hill to the East, it is surrounded by the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is on the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site and the South West Coast Path.
Schools are plentiful and medical facilities are excellent with a surgery and small hospital in the town centre plus a new, modern health centre on the outskirts of town close to the popular Waitrose supermarket. Transport links are good with regular bus services to Exeter and Honiton with its rail links to London Waterloo. The Cathedral City of Exeter with its International Airport and access to the M5 is only 16 miles to the West.
