THE STORY
Standing proudly over its exquisite grounds ? and including two cottages as well as the main 12-bedroom house ? Teversal Manor is a magnificent country home with a fascinating and colourful history. Believed to date back in part to at least 1612, the imposing Grade II Listed mansion was originally home to the High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire. Since then it has evolved in its structure and had many notable owners and interesting connections. ?For a long time, it was in the ownership of the Carnarvon family: the 5th Earl of Carnarvon was, of course, best known for his role in the excavation of Tutankhamun?s tomb,? explains the current owner. ?While the Carnarvons lived here, the author Virginia Woolf would frequently come to stay, and it was under their ownership in 1896 that the house was extended and significantly remodelled.?
