Property description

An utterly charming two-bed semi-detached period cottage with a courtyard terrace and a west-facing garden in a tranquil location. Halfpenny Cottage is a wonderful Victorian cottage with colour washed elevations under a pantile roof. The property, which has recently been renovated, is located on Hyde Park Corner in the village of Sudbourne, and only a short drive from Orford and Snape.

Entering through a front door porch, the ground floor comprises a living room, kitchen, and downstairs cloakroom. The elegantly proportioned living room enjoys plenty of natural light from two windows, and has a brick fireplace housing a wood burning stove. A door opens to the kitchen, with integrated electric oven and hob and fridge and space for a slimline dishwasher. Off the kitchen is a cloakroom, with low level WC and wash basin, and a door to the terrace. There is a storage cupboard off the living room with ample storage and plumbing for a washing machine.

Stairs from the sitting room lead to the first-floor landing with a double and single bedroom, and a bathroom with a bath with a thermostatic shower and a basin.

Outside:

To the rear, accessed via a path at the side of the property and via the kitchen, is a stone paved courtyard, ideal for entertaining. A further pathway leads to the garden which is laid to lawn, with mature shrubs and plants and a timber garden shed. The property is accessed via a private track.

Location:
Halfpenny Cottage lies close to the coast in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is perfectly poised inland between much-loved Aldeburgh and Orford. The latter, a pretty medieval village on the River Alde just a five-minute drive away attracts visitors for its twice daily drops of fresh lobster and crabs, its renowned oysterage and smokehouse and the excellent Pump Street Bakery. Aldeburgh is famed for ice cream, fish and chips, and as the home of Benjamin Britten, while nearby Snape Maltings is a world-renowned centre of music and a visitor destination of great beauty, also popular with local residents.
The cottage is a circa 30 minute drive from Ipswich, where trains run to London Liverpool St in just over an hour. Wickham Market train station is a short twenty-minute drive away.
