Strabane Area Guides

Strabane, historically known as Straban, is County Tyrone’s second-largest town after Omagh. Strabane lies on the east bank of the River Foyle, which is the boundary between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The town is a cultural hotspot, with the cross-border, cross-community group Cultural Revival Among Interested Communities providing music lessons in the local Irish language, the famous Barret School of Irish Dancing, and the Alley Arts and Conference Centre all calling it home. In the area surrounding the town, there is an abundance of unspoilt natural beauty, from the heights of the Sperrins to the rich river valleys. Strabane no longer has a railway, but there are good motorway and bus connections.
