Sheffield is a major city and metropolitan borough which is located in the county of South Yorkshire, in the North of England. Situated on the western side of the Peak District National Park and with Derbyshire to the south, Sheffield's position makes a perfect destination for those looking to live around stunning countryside whilst also benefiting from being near to a city with useful amenities. Sheffield is a thriving city that has the River Sheaf running through it, along with an abundance of culture, vibrance and historical reference. With a deep history that was first established through steel, this lead to the city undergoing major development which now boasts a flourishing art and culture scene, with most of the historic factories having been transformed into galleries, theatres and museums.

Community

As England's fourth largest city, Sheffield has a lot to offer to both tourists and its residents, who can find some wonderful attractions within and around the area. If locals are looking for some outdoor fun, there are plenty of spaces to be explored, including Sheffield Botanical Gardens, Graves Park, Tropical Butterfly House Wildlife & Falconry Centre, and Beauchief Abbey & Ancient Woodlands. Residents also have some fantastic entertainment options to visit, such as The Millennium Gallery, Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, Lyceum Theatre and Meadowhall Shopping Centre which is is the largest shopping centre in Yorkshire.

Safety

Given that Sheffield has a large population along with many bars, clubs and pubs, there's no wonder why the area has known to have a high crime rate. Much like most other major cities, Sheffield is popular with students and young professionals because of the vibrancy on offer, unfortunately meaning that crimes like antisocial behaviour and shoplifting occur more often. In 2022, the crime rate in Sheffield has been 7% lower than the rest of Yorkshire and The Humber, and slightly above the England, Wales & Northern Ireland overall figure by 16%, which is somewhat good in comparison to most other highly-populated cities and towns.

Parking

Residents have some good parking options across the city that can be secured at either a daily, monthly or hourly rate. Some of the local car parks include Eyre Street (The Moor) Car Park, Carver Lane Car Park - Sheffield City Council, NCP Sheffield Wellington Street and NCP Sheffield Sidney Street, which are all dotted across the city centre.

Nightlife

Sheffield has a wide choice of nightlife for residents to enjoy, from the afternoon until the late hours of the evening. A range of venues are situated in the city centre, with the likes of Dempseys Bar & Club, ONYX Nightclub, The Leadmill, and Code Nightclub. If locals are in the mood for a change of scenery, they can also head over to the Leeds, Manchester or Rotherham surrounding areas for even further evening options.

Dog walkers and explorers can head to the local parks of Norfolk Heritage Park, Hillsborough Park, Meersbrook Park, Endcliffe Park and so many more. Not to mention the incredible views found at Eckington Park- National Forest and the Longshaw estate, Burbage Brook and the Eastern Moors- National Trust.

Transport

Sheffield is a well-connected city that has great transport links for residents and commuters to travel to London and other major cities of the North. Locals can hop on the extensive tram network to travel between the key areas of the city, such as Meadowhall Shopping Centre, Sheffield Arena and the Universities. Sheffield train station is served mainly by East Midlands Railway, Northern, CrossCountry and TransPennine Express trains, which all provide residents transport to the likes of Manchester Piccadilly- 55m, Liverpool Lime Street- 1hr 48m, Leeds- 40m and London St Pancras- 2hrs 10m. The nearest Airport is Doncaster/Sheffield (DSA) which is reachable by car via the M18 in around 50m from the city center. Coaches and Buses also serve the area for local travel.
