Runcorn, Cheshire Rating
Runcorn is a lovely town which is situated in the historic county of Cheshire, in North-western England. Located on the southern shore of River Mersey, 15 miles upstream from the port of Liverpool, Runcorn is was first founded around 915 AD when it was used as a Mercian fortress to guard against Viking invasion at a narrowing of the River Mersey. After the industrial revolution in the 18th century, Runcorn benefitted from the extension of the Bridgewater Canal to the town, which transformed it from a small village to a thriving industrial hub.
