Lisburn is Northern Ireland’s third biggest city and comprises part of the Belfast Metropolitan Area, with commuting times into Belfast’s centre averaging about 15 minutes. Lisburn’s railway stations regular express trains to Belfast, which take 10-15 minutes, and directly links the city with Portadown, Kurgan, Moira, and Bangor, as well as serving Dublin. The area also has extensive bus services, and has excellent road connections and a favourable position on the Belfast-Dublin corridor on the M1. According to a 2014 survey by the Office of National Statistics, Lisburn was the fourth happiest place to live in the UK and the happiest town in Northern Ireland. The Lisburn and Castlereagh District Council Area was also found to have the lowest unemployment, lowest rates, highest earnings, and highest life expectancy in Northern Ireland.
