About the Area:
Wallington, is a charming village and civil parish, located three miles east of Baldock, North Hertfordshire. Lying at the southern end of the village, you will find The Church of St Mary, a Grade II listed building, of which the nave, west tower and windows date from the mid-15th Century, and the chancel rebuilt in 1864. There are excellent walking routes from the village of Wallington – including The Icknield Way Wallington SW Loop, which leads across the hills of North Hertfordshire, along well-defined paths featuring breath taking open views across to Cambridgeshire. On the return leg of this circular walk, you will pass some excavation where drainage ditches dug by prisoners from the Napoleonic wars have been unearthed. It has been recorded that author George Orwell lived here between 1936 and 1940, and it was here he found inspiration for many of the settings and characters in his iconic novel Animal Farm, (first published in 1945).
