It is said that location is the key to any property and this is definitelythe case with properties along Sea Road in Westgate and, in particular, this delightful and spacious ground-floor apartment in Penrhyn. It has uninterrupted views across the clifftop providing a panoramic vista along the coast from Westgate to Margate. Penrhyn is an attractive Victorian house on the seafront that has been converted and extended into six apartments but still retains many of its historical features. On the outside, there is an arched balcony on the first floor and a fascinating loggia underneath that is part of the ground-floor apartment, accessed from the kitchen/breakfast room. Unlike many apartments, this one has a private front entrance from the street that is not accessed by any of the other flats, so it is as if you are walking through an attractive storm porch straight into your totally private home. Once inside, you immediately feel the spaciousness and elegance of a bygone era with large rooms, beautiful solid oak doors, high coved ceilings, timber sash windows, ceiling roses, solid oak flooring and period fireplaces. There is a large and extremely well fitted contemporary kitchen/breakfast room where you can sit and relax looking straight out to sea through the patio doors. It includes a lovely four-oven Aga, dishwasher and integrated larder-size fridge and similar-sized freezer so has everything you need to cook wonderful meals and entertain at least a dozen family members and friends in the stylish dining room with its bay window and attractive chandelier that could also be a very generous sized third bedroom. The impressive sitting room also has a large bay window with wonderful sea views across St. Mildred's Bay and, on cold winter evenings, you can sit around the cosy wood-burning stove. There is a Jack and Jill shower room with an entrance from the hall as well as from bedroom two, which includes a period fireplace and fitted cupboards. The family bathroom has a lovely ball and claw roll-top bath as well as a separate shower while the first bedroom incorporates a large fitted cupboard. There is a shingle and brick paved patio in front of the loggia where you can sit on a summer's evening watching the Turner sunsets and gaze at the sea view. What the Owner says:
“This has been a lovely place to stay and we have always enjoyed our time in Westgate. We chose this unique apartment because of the fabulous views and the fact we can go for long walks through the myriad of paths just across the road from the flat. Since we have been here we have had some wonderful parties as the kitchen and reception rooms lend themselves to entertaining. We love being able to spend days on the sandy beaches at St. Mildred's Bay and West Bay. The area has hardly changed in more than 50 years and the beaches, with their beach huts, are still a magnet for families. It is an ideal spot for a bit of exercise as you can cycle along the 35-mile stretch of coastal promenade or walk on the greensward opposite the apartment. Westgate town centre is within walking distance and offers a unique parade of individual shops as well as Indian and Chinese restaurants. There is a main-line station, a very good and inexpensive local cinema as well as a bowls and tennis club while the Westgate and Birchington golf club is not far away, so there is something for everyone.”
