Description

Monks Mulberry has had a very interesting history, the origins date from 1760 and incorporates an octagonal brick building, with a conical roof of slates and tiles, which probably originated in the second half of the 18th century as a gazebo originally for the walled garden of The Priory. Three sides of the octagon retain windows with two-centred heads, each divided by a forked wooden mullion into two pointed lights and a lozenge-shaped tracery light; these windows appear to replace earlier openings with ogival heads. This room has converted into a stunning sitting room for the property with its vaulted ceiling, rope mouldings, fireplace with brick surround and wonderful views from all aspects.   The house has been significantly extended over the years for residential use most of the work being carried out in the 1930s.

The entrance hall is the conservatory and further rooms on the ground floor include a study, dining room, outside which there is a covered verandah to enjoy alfresco dining and the views over the open countryside. Next to the dining room is the kitchen/breakfast room with fitted wooden units and a red Aga. There is a further reception room on the ground floor converted from the original garage which makes a light and airy room with wood burning stove and a spiral staircase leading up to a mezzanine floor. The downstairs bathroom has a Jacuzzi bath.

Upstairs, the principal bedroom is a recent extension over the double garage. This room is triple aspect with a Juliet balcony and maximises on the outlook with views of Spetisbury Rings, fields and the woods beyond. The principal suite includes a dressing area and bath and shower room. There are a further three bedrooms on this floor and a family bathroom.

Outside
The garden is a particular feature of the property, it is a wildlife garden having a small pond, a range of small trees, shrubs and perennials to attract birds and butterflies. A large array of spring bulbs growing down all the banks and edges of the lawn. Climbing roses edge down the western fence. With two large lime trees and more in the field beyond. Productive raised vegetable beds, a fruit cage with raspberries, gooseberries and blackcurrants. There are three very productive apple trees planted to be cross pollinators; Cox's Orange Pippin, Blenheim Orange and Russet and two small productive pear trees and a mulberry tree.

There is ample parking on the drive to the front of the house and a double garage.

Square Footage: 4411 sq ft
