Western Isles Area Guides

The Western Isles, also known as the Outer Hebrides, are a strikingly beautiful and complex terrain. Sea cliffs, sandy beaches, mountain ranges, peat moors, and lochans can all be found on these isles. This unspoilt natural beauty comes with opportunities for wildlife spotting and activities like climbing and surfing. The Western Isles are among the least populated region in Scotland, and the north westernmost point of the UK. The history and culture of this part of the UK stretches back thousands of years. On a practical note, however, the remote and wild nature of these islands doesn’t make them hard to reach — there are great air and sea links all year round, with flights to the main Scottish cities taking an hour or so. Still, whether it’s outdoor activities or nightlife you’re after, you can find it in the Outer Hebrides.
