Midlothian Area Guides

Agriculture and industry meet in this part of Scotland, which lies less than ten miles south of the Edinburgh city centre. The scenic Pentland Hills are a popular tourist destination, and the area is steeped in history because of its position between Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders. Midlothian’s industrial heritage in the mining industry is preserved the Scottish Mining Museum near Bonnyrigg. Many living in or around the main towns, including Dalkeith, with rural villages and farm settlements in the south of the county. The area is served by several local bus and coach companies, and the Borders Railway Project recently re-established rail service from Edinburgh through Midlothian to Tweedbank.
