Isle of man Area Guides

Technically, the Isle of Man is not a part of the United Kingdom — but it’s not exactly abroad, either. Sitting in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland, the Isle of Man packs a lot of history, beauty, wildlife, and folklore into its 227 square miles. Manx National Heritage is an award-winning organisation which has done a great deal to upgrade attractions like castles, Celtic antiquities, and museums, and half of the island is undeveloped. The island is connected to Great Britain by air and by sea, but within the Isle of Man is an excellent rail and bus network (as well as horse-drawn and steam-powered transport) for those who are not avid mountain bikers or walkers — though opportunities for such activities are bountiful. Work permit restrictions, higher costs of goods, and isolation from the mainland would be things to consider when moving to the Isle of Man — but you’d be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful place to live.
