Highland Area Guides

The Scottish Highlands are a striking rural region of the UK. Characterised by lochs and lochans, glens, and mountains, including Ben Nevis (the tallest mountain in the UK). The landscape is dramatic and beautiful, and the region’s north-westernmost location means that residents get up to 18 hours of light in the summer and can frequently spot the Northern Lights. The rural and somewhat remote character of the Highlands means that you can get a lot of house and often a lot of grounds for your money, but there is still a wide range of property available, from cottages to country manors. There are many good schools in the Highlands, particularly Inverness, but they may not be very near your home. You don’t need to leave the region for good food and entertainment, but if you want to, there are regional trains, as well as services to London, and low-cost flights are available from Inverness airport. Most people will rely on a car, however. From rugged coastline to the Cairngorms, the Highlands are a stunning part of the UK to call home.
