Fermanagh Area Guides

Fermanagh is a largely rural county in the basin of the River Erne, and is dominated by the connected Upper and Lower Lough Erne lakes. There are no large towns in the county, and the main (medium-sized) town is Enniskillen — the land is, therefore, mostly used for livestock grazing. There are numerous small villages in County Fermanagh, and there are numerous cycling and walking trails connecting the villages with attractions like the prehistoric idols at Lough Erne’s Boa and White Islands. With so much of the county covered by water, there are numerous boating opportunities, including a waterbus for island-hopping. The area is well-connected by local buses, which also connect to the Republic of Ireland.
