Dundee Area Guides

Located on the beautiful river Tay, Dundee is Scotland’s fourth biggest city. It is a former whaling port, but today is home to 20,000 students, and is a modern, artistic, and cultural city. Dundee is a car-friendly city, with a very successful car-share programme and numerous car parks, but several bus companies offer local service and there are good cycle routes as well. Dundee has two rail stations, and others nearby. The student areas in the city’s west end are where the highest concentration of bars and restaurants can be found, but the city centre also has a lot to offer. Dundee also has nice suburbs, particularly the lovely seaside suburb of Broughty Ferry, which is known as the ‘jewel in Dundee’s crown’. Dundee has a burgeoning cultural scene, anticipating a new Victoria & Albert museum opening in 2017, and top-notch retail facilities. Dundee is also Scotland’s sunniest city — enabling residents to take advantage of the waterfront, which is currently undergoing a £1 billion transformation.
