Cambridge is a historic city and the county town of Cambridgeshire, located in the East of England. Although Cambridge does not have a cathedral, city status in the UK can be associated with having either a cathedral, university, or large population. As Cambridge grew into a large community whilst also being home to Cambridge University, the town was granted a city charter in 1951 in recognition of its history, administrative importance, and economic success.
