Liverpool city is located in the North West of England, situated on the estuary of the River Mersey. After being named a city in 1880, Liverpool developed into the fifth largest in the UK with a population of 500,000 and a metropolitan area population of around 2.25 million. Many sites were granted World Heritage status in the area and in 2008, Liverpool became the European Capital of Culture where plenty of beautiful destinations are found.
